To effectively manage Our Requirements for Community, implementing the Minerals Americas social investment strategy and engagement of the community function to support the growth of the Escondida Asset and support and maintain our social licence.  


  • Provide the strategic approach for Escondida’s social investment program including ensuring a program of work to not only meeting Our Requirements but to add value to the business through effective and targeted social research and subsequent partnerships and relationships.
  • Provide the strategic approach for Escondida’s Community Stakeholder Engagement in Antofagasta ensuring key relationships are built on trust and create shared value. This includes participation in various forum meetings, committees, partnership meetings, and working groups.
  • Social risk analysis and participation in asset/project risk assessments providing strategic advice on community risks and potential controls. 
  • Ensure accurate and timely provision of required data for BHP such as Social Investment, and Community Grievances and Complaints in line with Minerals Americas requirements.
  • To manage the Escondida Community team. Providing leadership and a united, consistent approach and facilitation of timely approvals for team members.
  • Provide advice to the Head of Corporate Affairs and other leadership team members on changing community issues relevant to their areas.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including with Corporate, other functions, industry associations and community partners
  • Demonstrate an overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
  • Encourage and promote continuous improvement by constantly looking for opportunities to improve work practices and procedures




  • Bachelor degree or equivalent community relations experience
  • Extensive resource or energy experience in Community and Corporate Affairs discipline
  • People and team development and management
  • Demonstrated advanced written and oral Spanish and English language proficiency
