Environmental Technician Internship
BHP Billiton New Mexico Coal has excellent opportunities for Summer Environmental Technicians. BHP Billiton is a global natural resources company operating surface and underground mines in Northwest New Mexico.
Vegetation sampling and monitoring on reclaim and native plant communities
Enter and evaluate vegetation data
Conduct rill and gully surveys to evaluate erosion
Collect air and water quality samples
Use GPS to map re-vegetation areas, erosion control structures, etc.
Assist with environmental permits
Students pursuing a degree in environmental engineering, range science, botany, conservation biology, natural resource management, or other related field. Course work or field experience in plant identification and vegetation sampling is preferred. Ability to work in summer heat consistently for 6 to 8 hours a day. Work effectively in a team environment and have good planning and organization skills.
